Girls Fight Back

Girls Fight Back was born in direct response to the June 2001 murder of a dynamic, athletic, and loved college student named Shannon McNamara. After Shannon’s death, her friend and sorority sister, Erin Weed, realized the need for practical and empowering options for young women to learn violence prevention and self-defense. Nicole Snell took over the program in 2020 and is continuing the mission of teaching women everywhere how to be their own best protector.
The Girls Fight Back seminar is designed to be a safe space for women/girls and those who identify as women/girls, to learn about self defense. This program is great for colleges, sororities, high schools and other all womxn groups who want to learn skills to be their own best protector. We combine core values, a fun and empowering attitude, and the best safety and self-defense methods available. You are worth fighting for!
The program is 75 minutes + Q&A and includes these key components:

The Awkward Hug

Have you ever participated in unwanted conversations, hugging, kissing, other physical contact or even … relationships? Want to know how to handle awkward encounters with people you know in an empowered, respectful and socially acceptable way?
Setting personal boundaries that work for us is essential to living a healthy, happy and empowered life. The tools we will learn can be used every day and the practice of them can ultimately lead to forming stronger relationships in our work, romantic and friendly interactions, along with helping us feel more confident in our day to day social exchanges.
Join us for an interactive, gender inclusive workshop designed to fine tune your intuition, help you learn to set boundaries and use your voice and take full control of your choices.
The program is 60-75 minutes + Q&A and is ideal for groups from 10 to 80 people.

Safety, Assertiveness, Violence Prevention, Empowerment (S.A.V.E.) is a gender inclusive program designed for companies, businesses, or any non-student group that wants to empower their community and employees with personal safety tools, discussions on how to avoid unwanted social interactions with colleagues and co-workers, de-escalation strategies, and how to use verbal strategies to avoid confrontations. We will address the importance of intuition and awareness when managing our safety, and how to be an active bystander for others. The program can include discussion and practice with physical self-defense techniques.
This program is 60min + Q&A and can be customized to fit a variety of corporate needs.

This interactive and gender inclusive program is designed for any group that wants to feel confident setting boundaries in professional and personal settings. We discuss the importance of speaking up for your needs, trusting your intuition, and using clear, assertive communication. It will provide tools to help you recognize manipulative behavior as well as feel better equipped to be an active bystander. The goal is to enable you to confidently enforce your boundaries in direct and respectful ways.

Run Into Your Power: Self-Defense for Solo Runners

If safety is one of your top concerns when you head out for a solo run on the trails or the road, then this class is for you! Experienced solo runner and self-defense expert, Nicole Snell, will guide you through simple, practical and autonomy affirming strategies you can start using on your runs today! Nicole believes in empowering you with strategies that alleviate your fear without restricting your life. This session will focus on both verbal and physical skills with an emphasis on how our bodies are our best tools. This positive and supportive session is both evidence-based and research supported to have you hitting the trails with confidence!

Bystander Intervention &
Addressing Identity Based Harassment

This interactive virtual program is designed to empower individuals with personal safety options including strategies for bystander intervention and discussions on how to use verbal skills when faced with confrontations or street harassment. We will address the importance of intuition and awareness when managing our safety and how to confidently set boundaries. The goal of the session is to offer participants tools that can help them feel comfortable in their ability to respond to various situations they may encounter.
The program is 45-75 minutes + Q&A.

The Badass Basics Workshop
College, K-12, Corporate, Realtors, Private Groups, Public Classes
This hands-on, empowerment-based self-defense workshop is designed to be a positive and supportive space for women and people of all gender identities and expressions to learn practical safety skills. These skills can increase your confidence and help you gain independence for walking through the world and doing the activities you love. This small group workshop addresses the basics of personal safety along with non-physical and physical self-defense skills. Participants will have the opportunity to practice the skills through body movement and hitting focus mitts using the techniques taught.
