It's My 5 Year Business Anniversary!

Today is my 5 year incorporation anniversary for my companies Empowered Journeys, Inc. and Girls Fight Back!
That means I've beaten the odds. Statistically, 50% of small businesses fail within the first 5 years.
On this day 5 years ago, during COVID, I officially incorporated my businesses! I spent 6 years as a speaker for Girls Fight Back and helped the owner at the time to expand programming and adapt to the changing market. Then towards the end of 2019, the owner decided to sell the company and programs. I boldly asked if she'd consider selling it to me and she said YES!
Looking back, it was scary and unprecedented to consider taking over a company in 2020. I had never wanted to own a company. It was the start of the COVID19 pandemic, the world was shut down, live programming around the US and world was cancelled, and virtual programming wasn't a thing yet. I was advised not to buy the company.
I did it anyway. #bold
I'm still here!
I'm proud of all of my accomplishments over the last 5 years as a business owner. I've done a TEDx Talk, my work has been featured in peer-reviewed research articles, I've expanded my business, added new gender inclusive programs, worked with dozens of new industries, trained the entire US Air Force Academy Football Team, spoke at dozens of conferences, created & led outdoor safety and guided hiking events, been featured in global media and interviewed for TV, launched an online course on outdoor self-defense & safety, trained thousands of people, and completed hundreds of speaking engagements around the world.
I'm grateful to everyone who has believed in me, supported me, hired me, referred me, recommended me, advised me, and talked me through tough times. THANK YOU!
Despite the challenges that this year has presented I'm not going anywhere! I will find a way through. This work is changing the world and saving lives!
MY MISSION: To empower people with evidence-based personal safety and self-defense skills so that we can live our lives limitlessly! Because when we can alleviate fear, we open up our access to the world.
I look forward to continuing to grow, collaborate, and empower people with the skills to claim their voice, set boundaries, manage their safety and walk through the world being their own badass. I am working to create a world where violence doesn't exist and where everyone is equipped with the skills to respond to threats and danger in the present.
Until perpetration is at ZERO, we all need access to strategies that the research says is effective at violence prevention, threat assessment, and harm reduction. That's why I'll continue to teach and train people with these life skills!
