What is empowerment-focused self-defense for models and actors?
A model or actor's job consists of casting calls, working with agents/managers/other talent, networking, meeting new people, working with unfamiliar crew and cast, and traveling. It can be a challenging business but it should never be unsafe. Empowerment-based self-defense education can help models & actors stay safe, assertive, and empowered—on set, on the road, and everywhere in between.
I've had the pleasure of training staff and cast at production companies and modeling agencies on this very topic! And as someone who spent 12years in the Entertainment Industry as a Line Producer, I understand the challenges of being on set and managing uncomfortable interactions.
Learning to feel comfortable speaking up for yourself or protecting yourself (whether or not there's an intimacy coordinator on set), trusting your intuition, and having verbal strategies for dealing with awkward situations are valuable life skills. Plus, learning how to set boundaries with your agent, manager, casting director, director, and/or crew is an essential element of professionalism that is valuable for both the job and your personal life.
