What is empowerment focused self-defense for Moms?
No matter what stage of motherhood you're in, keeping yourself, your children, and your loved ones safe will always be priority. It's not about fear—it's about freedom, strength, autonomy, and showing up powerfully for yourself and your kids.
Moms shouldn't have to rely on someone else always being able (and knowledgeable enough) to step in protect them or their children. Moms can harness their power and learn how to be their own best protector anywhere! Learning key self-defense strategies that include verbal and physical techniques, boundary setting, and confidence building strategies means you don't have to limit your life, the places you take your kids, or depend on the schedule of others in order to be safe.

I have taught hundreds of classes over the last 10 years. It is not uncommon for a woman to tell me that she feels uncomfortable speaking up for herself or that the thought of using physical skills to defend herself seems frightening. When I ask, "what if someone was coming for your child, niece/nephew, younger sibling, etc?" her face turns stoic and resolute and she affirms that she would do what was necessary to protect them. We have that protective energy in us and we simply need to give ourselves permission to access it.
There is nothing more fierce in nature than a mama's/woman's protective energy. Learn how to harness that energy for yourself too!
Empowerment focused self-defense education can also help moms protect their kids. Protecting our loved ones starts by teaching them how to protect themselves. Moms can't always be with their kids and as they age, the time parents spend away from their kids gradually increases as children begin to express independence. By learning these valuable self-defense skills, moms can model them in every day interactions and pass that knowledge onto their kids. That will help children build confidence, autonomy and resiliency. Teaching kids how to set boundaries, express their needs, understand body safety, and when to talk to a trusted adult helps to develop their self-efficacy. This also reduces their likelihood of being targeted by predators who seek to groom and take advantage of them. Boundaries have been shown to reduce the risk of abuse and exploitation in various populations.

Women's History Month is March and Girls Fight Back is a great way to empower the women in your community!
